Research group of Microfluidics and Complex Systems at the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences in collaboration with:
Foundation for Polish Science and European Union program of Innovative Economy

seeks candidates for the following positions:
• Postdoctoral (3 positions), net salary ~ 1 800 Euro (6000 PLN) + social and health insurance
• Ph.D. students (3 positions), net salary ~ 900 Euro (3000 PLN) + social and health insurance
• Ms C students (3 positions), fellowship ~ 300 Euro (1000 PLN)

for research within the following TEAM project:

„Droplet Microfluidics – Fundamentals and Applications."
Microfluidic systems offer perfect control over formation of micro-droplets, bubbles and structured droplets. This technology opens promises for:

i) preparation of perfect emulsions and synthesis of newmaterials for use in various industries, and
ii) use of the microfluidic droplet techniques for automated, highly parallel chemical and biochemical analyzes and for chemical synthesis.

These uses are not yet realized due to i) intrinsically small throughput of microfluidic systems, ii) complicacies of guiding droplets in complex networks of microchannels, that are only beginning to be understood. The project addresses these two deficiencies by studying i) high-throughput formation of droplets, ii) new, robust, methods of
formation of ultra-small droplets, iii) the use of the high-throughput and the other new methods for preparation of new materials, iv) parallel formation of droplets of a range of chemical compositions and their use in analytical chemistry, and vi) on-chip combinatorial and sequential synthesis.

The project will be executed in close collaboration with:

• University of Wisconsin at Madison
• University of Toronto
• University of Seville

Requirements
• Postdoctoral Candidates: Ph.D. in Science or Engineering obtained between January 1st 2004 and December 1st 2008
• Ph.D. Students: Masters degree in Science or Engineering obtained before December 1st 2008
• The most important requirement for these positions is outstanding motivation.
